Sarah Greene ready for TV comeback after heartache over husband's death
Sarah Greene is ready for her long-awaited TV comeback after turning her back on her career following her husband’s death.
The TV presenter, 65, was a familiar face on many shows throughout the 80s and 90s, including Blue Peter, Going Live, and Saturday Superstore, but following the passing of her beloved husband Mike Smith in 2014, she retreated from the spotlight, and turned down offers of tell roles as they felt “too raw” in the aftermath of his death.
The former Radio 1 DJ and Top of the Pops host died at the age of 59 following complications from heart surgery, leaving Sarah devastated and overwhelmed, as she had to focus on taking over Mike’s business following his death. “Nine years ago my husband died and I had a very big task on my hands, because I made the decision to take on his business. It was a learning precipice. It took up a lot of my headspace,” she told Mirror Online.

Only time can help that, you know when you feel ready, when you have that energy,” Sarah candidly shared. The TV star stepped back from her flourishing career in order to concentrate on running Mike’s aerial firm Flying TV, but is now ready to return to the small screen.
Sarah is set to co-host the new BBC game show The Finish Line, alongside Roman Kemp, and revealed her husband Mike would be “proud” of her restarting her hugely successful career. Adding that while filming the show in Belfast – where Mike grew up – she had “a few little taps on the shoulder from him.”

She's now making her long-awaited telly comeback in a new BBC game show (BBC)She insisted retirement wasn’t on the cards for her in the near future, and was overjoyed to be paired up with Roman for the new show, and Sarah joked she was Roman’s “honorary godmother” after working with his parents Martin and Shirley Kemp. “We just instantly clicked, you realise that you have a similar sense of humour and certain things make you both giggle, that's the key to it really,” she told the BBC.
As well as getting her telly career back on track, Sarah has also found love with former British touring car champion Robb Gravett, who was one of her late husband’s oldest friends. Back in February, they went public with their romance, and Sarah is adamant Mike “pulled the strings” to make the relationship happen. “He has undoubtedly been responsible for me meeting my beloved who was one of his oldest friends, who waited a certain amount of time but did keep leaving messages on the answering machine,” she told the My Time Capsule podcast. “I sort of know Mike is pulling so many strings in my life.”
