Corrie fans baffled over Tyrone storyline blunder as he reunites with 'dead' mum

Tyrone Dobbs made the huge decision to move his birth mother Cassie Plummer into his house on Friday but, Coronation Street viewers were left distracted by a huge 'plot hole'.

Cassie (Claire Sweeney) arrived in Weatherfield earlier this year to get to know her son but, was stopped in her tracks by her mum Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) who decided to help her daughter get clean off drugs before telling her grandson the truth. The estranged mum blurted out the truth to Tyrone (Alan Halsall) earlier in the week, leaving the furious mechanic throwing out both Cassie and his grandmother out on the street.

In Friday's instalment, Tyrone changed his mind and decided to give his birth mum a chance to redeem herself by moving her into the house. However, ITV soap fans struggled to concentrate on the emotional storyline after becoming distracted by the age gap between Cassie star Claire Sweeney, 52 and Tyrone star Alan, 41.

One confused viewer tweeted: “Tyrone was born in 1982? Claire Sweeney was 11 in 1982. I suppose it's more realistic than the 9 years between Sue Nicholls and Helen Worth. #Corrie," and another added: “So how old is Cassie meant to be? Can’t see how she can be Tyrone’s mum unless she had him at like 12."

“Corrie time it's pathetic now with claire sweeney being on coronation street don't seem right with the age gap with Cassie and Tyrone and Evelyn," a third added. Someone else questioned: “Cassie is 50 and Tyrone is 40," while a fifth wrote: "Tyrone is my age. How exactly is Claire Sweeney old enough to be his mother?”

Speaking about her new role, Coronation Street star Claire told The Mirror and other press: "She's got a problem. She's an addict. That's what makes her so unpredictable and a loose cannon. She really does have great intentions to get better and to be with the family, but she's an addict and it's quite sad really. She's not better yet. Evelyn has had a relationship with Cassie for a while.

"Evelyn's being kind of on and off supporting her, helping her. And then she turns up, she wants to see Tyrone, she wants to get clean, she wants to be involved with the family, she needs a mum. She's a tough girl. She's been around the block, she's had problems, but there's a vulnerability with her where she needs a mum and she turns up for help."
