Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll shows off athleticism playing QB aged 71

Pete Carroll had been running around and playing quarterback reasonably well at age 71

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll might be one of the oldest coaches in NFL history, but he's not showing it.

In Seahawks' practice on Thursday, the Seahawks quarterbacks were off practicing away from team drills with the defensive backs needing someone to step in as the passer... up steps Carroll.

At 71 years old, Carroll was recorded on Seahawks' Twitter page running around the field and making some legitimately impressive throws to defensive backs during a drill.

Seahawks players watching on had been enjoying watching Carroll step in as quarterback, with starter Geno Smith tweeting: "MVPete".

And when posting the video themselves, the Seahawks made a slight jibe at Netflix - offering Carroll to be featured in the show after a number have turned the show down the show.

So far a number of starters including Justin Fields, Tua Tagovailoa, Trevor Lawrence, Matthew Stafford, Sam Howell and Jalen Hurts all confirming that they had said no to being on the show. Multiple reports have also rumoured that more starting players have also turned it down.

It does appear that Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has accepted the role, an interesting contrast from the previous season which did focus on him slightly with his rivalry against Patrick Mahomes. And one quarterback could be well set to star in the show is the Seahawks' Geno Smith.

One of the great storylines from last years season was Smith turning his career around out of nowhere - performing as a top-10 quarterback in the league and winning Comeback Player of the Year after becoming a starter for the first time in eight years.

Carroll even threw a no-look pass

Last season saw him throw an impressive 4,282 yards which lead to 30 touchdowns - while surprisingly being an upgrade over his predecessor Russell Wilson.

Smith had been Russell Wilson's second string for three years, before the Seahawks traded him for a huge haul of draft picks to the Denver Broncos, which they have used to rebuild their roster, now back in playoff contention.

And Smith was rewarded for his incredible season, being given a three-year, $105 million deal, which will see him as the starter for at least one more year - with Seattle having the opportunity to end his contract should he struggle this season. Smith had been a back-up with the Los Angeles Chargers, New York Jets and New York Giants prior to joining Seattle.
