Nottingham Forest vs Sheffield United is not set to be televised live in the UK on Friday evening due to Premier League rules.

Steve Cooper’s men welcome the newly-promoted side to the City Ground as they hunt their first win of the 2023/24 Premier League season. Forest fell to a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal on the opening day.

Elsewhere, Paul Heckingbottom’s Blades side endured a tricky start to life back in the top-flight as they slipped to a slender 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace. Fans will certainly be looking forward to an evening in front of the TV for some Friday evening football as they tune in.

They will be instantly disappointed though to learn that the clash in the Midlands is not due to be broadcast in the UK despite its rescheduled kick-off day. The reason for its lack of broadcast is down to the fixture not actually being originally selected for TV coverage.

Its rescheduling is down to The Hundred fixture between The Trent Rockets and Birmingham Phoenix at Trent Bridge on Saturday, with men’s and women’ fixtures set to take place. There were fears over congestion in Nottingham, hence the reason for the rearrangement.

Premier League rules state that a fixture not originally added to the TV schedule can then not have subsequent coverage even if it is rearranged. After beating Sheffield United in the playoffs en-route to promotion, Forest boss Cooper is expecting a difficult clash on Friday.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, he said: "They were big games and really tight affairs. Fair play to them [Sheffield United] for bouncing back from that with automatic promotion.

“We know how hard that is and they deserve a lot of credit. They come up with momentum and have a core that have been there a while. Every Premier League team is full of strengths so we will be ready for that."

Meanwhile, Blades boss Heckingbottom has called for vast improvement from his side following last weekend’s defeat to Palace. "We want to have a better balance to the team,” he said.

“We've recruited so training has been better since the new boys came in – the character, the quality. It would have been great to have that from the start and have them match ready now."

Away from the showdown at the City Ground, there are five fixtures televised over the weekend. Saturday evening’s clash between Tottenham and Manchester United is to be broadcast on Sky Sports.

The channel are also set to show Aston Villa vs Everton, West Ham vs Chelsea and Crystal Palace vs Arsenal. Meanwhile, TNT Sports will broadcast Manchester City ’s clash with Newcastle at the Etihad on Saturday.
