Corrie's eagle-eyed fans spot 'hidden clue' ahead of Stephen and Tim 'showdown'

Coronation Street fans are convinced they've spotted a "hidden clue" in a major scene from Monday's episode, involving killer Stephen Reid. Soap watchers will recall Stephen has been on a killing spree, murdering Leo Thompkins, the latter's father Teddy and Rufus Donahue. He has also terrorised Elaine Metcalfe and Carla Connor by secretly spiking them.

Only recently, Rufus' estranged wife, Lou Donahue, got suspicious about her husband's death after she discovered a piece of incriminating evidence that could rumble the killer. Last week, Lou accidentally showed Stephen a clear bag full of Rufus' things that were found by the side of the pool with Stephen's tie pin visible.

Later, the widow said she was heading to the police station to discuss the tie pin. Lou pointed out that the tie pin has "love G x" on it, questioning if it even belonged to her husband. Viewers will recall that Stephen was married to Gabrielle Reid, his estranged wife, and the tie pin could incriminate him.

However, Stephen managed to retrieve the item on Monday's episode despite nearly being rumbled by Lou's son, Jools, and later he dropped the incriminating tie pin down the drain. Also, in a bid to throw Lou off the scent, he dropped Peter Barlow in it by telling her he had pawned Rufus' watch after finding it in a taxi.

During the scenes, eagle-eyed fans were left distracted as they noticed that when Stephen dropped the tie pin down the drain, there was a mystery person walking in the background who appeared to witness the moment. Although the person's identity remains unknown, several viewers were quick to question if it was Tim Metcalfe.

Only recently, filming photos showed Stephen trying to kill Tim, who has always been wary of the businessman, while other shooting snaps saw the moment that a car rooftop box was removed from the canal. Viewers will remember that Stephen used the item to dispose of Teddy's body. It remains to be seen what happens after the rooftop box is discovered and whether Tim gets killed but fans are convinced Monday's scene could be linked.

Taking to social media, one person said: "Was it just me or did anyone else see a figure in the background slowing down when Stephen dropped the pin in the grate?", to which a different account put: "He did a double look at Stephen. Deffo Tim", another viewer said: "Thought it was Tim????", a different fan noted: "I thought it looked like Tim" while another added: "Yes I noticed and I thought it was Tim!" However, a different soap watcher was quick to point out: "The man only walked past AFTER Stephen had dropped the tiepin down the grate and I don't think it was a regular cast member - probably just an extra."

It comes after Stephen actor Todd, 62, recently teased of what's to come with his character: "We are going to see him start taking risks as he gets more desperate, his life is starting to unravel and it is going to be interesting to see how he deals with the pressure. He is bound to start making mistakes and that could be his undoing."

Elsewhere, Corrie appeared to tease Stephen's exit earlier this week as new filming pictures see the cobbles killer fleeing Weatherfield and making a dramatic airport dash. In the snaps, it sees Stephen actor Todd Boyce on location as he is seen in character getting out of a taxi before heading to a desk to purchase a last minute ticket.

The question is, where is Stephen heading to, could it be Canada, where he was raised? And with the discovery of the car rooftop box and an attack on Tim, could the police be shortly following behind so the murderer finally gets his comeuppance or will he be able to escape in time?
