Liverpool have put Fulham star Joao Palhinha at the top of a six-man strong midfield shortlist as they scramble around for signings.

Jurgen Klopp is desperate for midfield additions before the end of the transfer window. The Reds had a deal in place with Brighton for Moises Caicedo, only to see the Ecuadorian complete a move to Chelsea.

A swoop for Romeo Lavia looks set to go the same way, with the Blues close to sealing the signing of the Southampton youngster for a fee of over £50m. That leaves Liverpool low on options as they attempt to secure a signing.

Klopp though has put a comprehensive shortlist of potential recruits together. According to MailOnline, there are six options being considered.

It is reported that Fulham star Joao Palhinha is the most favoured. The Portuguese shone for Marco Silva’s men lasts season after a move from Sporting Lisbon.

West Ham were linked with a move for him earlier this summer but have instead swooped for Southampton star James Ward-Prowse. Fulham have reportedly put a £60m-plus price-tag on Palhinha and it remains to be seen whether Liverpool would be willing to pay that fee.

Another of their options is also expected to be pricey. Crystal Palace star Cheick Doucoure has been considered but the Eagles are demanding around £70m for the former Lens midfielder.

There are a host of other candidates that could potentially move to Anfield before the end of the transfer window, who had previously been considered. Kalvin Phillips was previously admired by Klopp in the past and the Reds have been touted to re-explore a move for the Man City man.

Sofyan Amrabat has also been linked with switching to Merseyside from Fiorentina. Liverpool have their work cut out to seal his services, with fierce rivals Manchester United also chasing him.

The Reds are also going head-to-head with United for the signing of Khephren Thuram. Liverpool were strongly linked with a move for the Nice midfielder, although the Red Devils reportedly scouted him over recent weeks whilst they were keeping a close eye on Jean-Claire Todibo.

One final option could potentially be Fluminese’s Brazilian wonderkid Andre. The Reds are keen on a deal for the midfielder but his current employers are not keen on losing him this summer, and would instead prefer a deal in January.

Speaking about his side’s need for a new midfielder ahead of the clash with Chelsea, Klopp said: “It’s not surprising we are looking for that position. It’s clear and would be great if we could do something but for now we can do a lot of things.

“We can play a double six or double pivot as well and Stefan [Bajcetic] is coming back. He played that position exceptionally well so we have options, we have Curtis [Jones], we can adapt the system and have options. But yeah it would be absolutely great if we could.”
