Mikel Arteta suffers double Arsenal transfer blow as Monaco eye forgotten man
Arsenal got their Premier League campaign off to a winning start over the weekend and now the focus for fans returns to the transfer market.
David Raya still hasn't been confirmed as the Gunners' fourth signing of the summer, although Brentford boss Thomas Frank admits that an announcement is "imminent." The Spanish goalkeeper, who'll initially arrive on loan, was in attendance at the Emirates on Saturday to watch his soon-to-be team-mates secure a hard-fought 2-1 win against Nottingham Forest.
Mikel Arteta was delighted with the victory but still feels the Gunners have plenty more gears to go through, and new signings could help his side do exactly that. Unfortunately for Arteta, he appears to have just received two blows in his search to bolster his squad and eventually win the Premier League title.
Here's a round-up of the latest transfer news from the Emirates.
Gunners receive Veiga blow
Arsenal target Gabri Veiga is still wanted Napoli, despite Piotr Zielinski pulling the plug on a move to Saudi Arabia. Napoli midfielder Zielinski was bound for Al-Ahli before his wife blocked the transfer, leading to suggestions that the Italian champions would end their pursuit of Veiga and focus on extending the Poland international's contract.
Mikel Arteta's dream Arsenal line up as last-gasp January transfers are securedBut Calciomercato, via Football Italia, state that Napoli will continue to chase the Celta Vigo prodigy in a blow to Arsenal's chances. Veiga, 21, has also been tipped for a move to Liverpool, but it appears that the newly-crowned Serie A giants lead the race for his sought-after signature.

Monaco weigh up Lokonga swoop
Monaco are interested in Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga and could hijack Burnley's attempts to sign him. According to a report from his native Belgium this weekend, Ligue 1 side Monaco had been keen on Lokonga two years ago when the Gunners struck a deal worth around £18million with Anderlecht.
Now, though, the 23-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements in North London, with Burnley long touted as the favourites to acquire him on a permanent basis, having worked with Clarets boss Vincent Kompany at Anderlecht. But after talks with Burnley over personal terms reportedly didn't meet Lokonga's expectations, Monaco are weighing up a move.
Kudus blow adds to frustrations
New Ajax manager Maurice Steijn has poured cold water over claims that Arsenal-linked forward Mohammed Kudus is on the verge of a Premier League transfer. The versatile Ghanaian, who's valued at £34m by the Dutch giants, had been tipped for a move to Brighton, while also being linked with Manchester United.
But after Kudus scored in Ajax's season opener, Steijn has suggested there's nothing too advanced. "I have read a lot of reports about Kudus this week," the Dutchman explained. "But there is literally nothing right now that points to him leaving."
