A frantic search has been launched for a hillwalker who hasn't returned home after going out for a hike in the Scottish Highlands.

Isaac Johnson, 17, was reported as missing from the Glen Moidart area in the Highlands at around 11pm on Saturday after failing to return from a walk. Police, the coastguard, and mountain rescue teams are carrying out extensive searches for Isaac and officers are now appealing for information in their efforts to trace the teenager.

It's understood Isaac was walking in the area south of Greag Nan Lochan before heading north east. When last seen he was wearing shorts, a rain jacket and walking boots. He was also carrying an Adidas bag.

Chief Inspector Donna Allan said that the teenager's family is "extremely worried" for him. She said: “Isaac set off on his walk around lunchtime on Saturday and has failed to return home, and we are growing increasingly concerned for his welfare. This is an extremely worrying time for his family.

“We believe he was walking in the area south of Greag Nan Lochan and headed north east after that. Officers, coastguard, and mountain rescue teams are carrying out extensive searches but there have been no confirmed sightings of him.

“I would urge anyone with any information on Isaac’s whereabouts to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting 4427 of August 12, 2023.”

A statement from the force read: "Police Scotland is appealing for information to help trace 17-year-old Isaac Johnson missing from Glen Moidart. He was reported missing around 11pm on Saturday, 12 August, 2023 after failing to return from a hill walk. He was wearing shorts, a rain jacket and walking boots. He was carrying an Adidas bag."

Many people have taken to social media to share the appeal for information. One person wrote on Facebook: "Hope and prayers he’s found safe," and another said: "I hope he is found safe and well."
