TV presenter and journalist Dan Walker has given fans a health update after his near-death cycling accident in February that left him "a bloody mess".

In a terrifying incident, the Strictly star was hit by a car at a busy roundabout, thrown into the path of a vehicle and his bike was crushed leaving Dan bruised and bloodied. He shared a shocking image after the February incident that saw the TV star's face covered in blood and swollen as he revealed he'd also gone deaf at the scene, but his hearing later recovered.

Reflecting on the near-death accident, Dan revealed that he didn't break any bones but came very close to the accident being much worse and potentially fatal.

He shared that a policeman at the scene told him: "Another 50cm and it essentially runs over your head." He also revealed that he has no lasting effects from the accident, as he explained: "I have no recollection of the accident at all, so I’m not suffering any sort of flashbacks or anything like that. I’m thankful that I’m back on the bike."

Despite suffering the terrifying crash, Dan didn't let him keep him from work commitments as he returned to his presenting duties including the Royal Television Society Programme Awards just days after his accident. He explained: "It’s amazing how quickly your face heals. I had the crash on a Monday and I think I presented the RTS Awards the following Wednesday, then I was back on the air I think the next Monday."

Dan kept fans updated after the shocking accident in February, including thanking fans for their "lovely" messages of support as he recovered. In an update on Instagram in February, Dan posted photos of himself giving a thumbs up, his smashed watch, ripped jeans and a selfie from the hospital. In the update, he wrote: "Blown away by all the lovely messages. Thank you. Just got home from the hospital. Battered and bruised but - amazingly - nothing broken. "Very thankful to still be here. I have no memory of anything and just remember coming round on the tarmac with paramedics & police around me."

He added: "Thanks for all your kindness. Jamie & Shaun were so great in the ambulance - not sure I was making much sense. Thanks to Conor the copper, Charlotte in the x-ray & Hannah (in blue) for being so considerate & brilliant in such a busy A & E. So thankful for our NHS. The helmet I was wearing saved my life today so - if you’re on a bike - get one on your head."
