England will take on co-hosts Australia in the semi-finals of the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Colombia on Saturday.

The Lionesses edged past Nigeria in the round of 16 on penalties earlier this week and their last-eight clash with Colombia was an equally stern test. After a bright start to the game, it was the South American side who took the lead in the first-half.

Leicy Santos caught England shot-stopper Mary Earps off guard with a lifted effort from range. However, the Lionesses were quick to respond as Lauren Hemp put them back on level terms before the break.

Alessia Russo capitalised on another Colombia error in the second half to put England in front and Sarina Wiegman's side needed to dig deep in order to see out the narrow win. Despite a significant late onslaught, England held firm.

They will now take on Australia on Wednesday, August 16 at Stadium Australia in Sydney. Kick-off will be at 11 am UK time.

A place in a World Cup final will be up for grabs with Spain and Sweden set to contest the other semi-final clash at Eden Park in Auckland on Tuesday.

Lauren James will miss the tie as she serves her two-match suspension following her sending-off against Nigeria. However, she could still feature again at this tournament with England set to play at least another game, whether that's the final or third-place play-off.

The event also may see Sam Kerr enter the starting XI for the Matildas for the first time this tournament.
