EastEnders fans 'crying' as Lorraine Stanley poses with co-star ahead of exit

EastEnders fans were left emotional on Friday as Lorraine Stanley posed with her on-screen son Danny Walters ahead of her shock exit. Lorraine's, 47, character Karen Taylor, who has been a staple in Albert Square since 2017, will be written out at the end of the year. It comes as EastEnders' Shona McGarty, who plays Whitney Dean on the soap, has also quit the long-running BBC series.

Taking to Instagram on Friday, both Lorraine and EastEnders shared a joint photo of the actress posing with Danny, 30, who plays Karen's son Keanu Taylor. The caption read: "Green room hangs with this duo! #EastEnders." Fans were quick to comment on the snap as they shared their sadness over Lorraine's character Karen leaving.

One person said: "Love this photo and cant believe she is leaving so upsetting", a different account put: "Stop, love them. Crying.", another fan wrote: "Love this photo and cant believe she is leaving so upsetting" while a different person added: "Heartbroken Karen's going" with a crying emoji.

Last month, a source told The Sun on Sunday: "It’s always a tough call for bosses when deciding which characters will leave the soap, but it has to be done to keep storylines fresh and create new arcs for characters. Lorraine had a great run on the soap and was a real scene stealer with her comic timing and she has certainly made her mark with fans."

While EastEnders star Lorraine responded to rumours she is leaving the soap earlier this month and confirmed she is stepping away from the role. Taking to her social media, Lorraine said: "Hey everyone! I’m so grateful for all of your lovely messages this past week. Thank you to @daranlittle for creating the Taylors and to the BBC for giving me the opportunity to play such a fabulous character.
