A Coronation Street star has left fans completely stunned after making a surprise appearance in a Hollywood film alongside Orlando Bloom and Stranger Things star David Harbour.

The ITV soap actor has ditched the cobbles for a totally different role in the new Gran Turismo film based on the bestselling PlayStation games. He appears alongside an array of A-List stars as they tell the story of a Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won him a series of Nissan-sponsored video game competitions to become an actual professional race car driver.

Jamie Kenna, who shot to fame as Phill Whittaker in the soap, had fans scratching their heads as they barely recognised him in the film released this week. Phill was the beau of Fiz Stape, who she eventually left to rekindle things with her ex Tyrone Dobbs. The character was keen on writing a book about Fiz's late husband John Stape and his killing spree.

However, the actor decided to leave the soap in 2022 after 63 episodes. He has now turned to the glitzy world of Hollywood as he plays Jack Man Jones, a member of the Nissan pit crew who helps shoot Archie Madekwe’s character Jann Mardenborough to the podium at Le Mans.

He looks unrecognisable in the film as he dons leather racing gear and a helmet. Jamie isn't the only unexpected star to appear in the blockbuster movie. Spice Girl's Geri Horner makes an appearance as Jann’s mum Lesley. David Harbour plays the all-American driving instructor Jack Salter, while Orlando Bloom puts a face to marketing strategist Danny Moore.

It's not Jamie's first time taking on a big project as in 2006 he starred in Children of Men and had roles in The All Together, Green Street, David Brent: Life on the Road and Peaky Blinders. Acting wasn’t always Jamie’s career either, as he used to be a semi-professional footballer playing for Rusthall FC.

Jamie also keeps himself busy as a cafe owner and barista after officially opening his new venture The Green Room in Brighton in June. The actor urged his 16,000 Instagram followers to pay a visit. One of the walls inside the cafe was adorned with a phrase quoted by his six-year-old son. Sharing a photo of the slogan, Jamie wrote on Instagram: "The Green Room, The goodest cafe in town….OPEN TODAY!!"

Last July, Jamie posted a video on Instagram thanking the ITV production for the opportunity to appear in Coronation Street after he announced he was leaving his role. He said: "The modern-day Jack and Vera are reunited and I feel so honoured to have played my part in that. Jennie [McAlpine] and Alan [Halsall] are the best people to work with. I've had an absolute blast. I love this place. I love this show. What a ride it's been for Big Phill with two L's."

Jamie finished the video by teasing a potential return for the future. He said: "Who knows? Maybe it isn't the end. Maybe they'll bring him back but for now, it's a massive goodbye from me."
