Coronation Street fans should brace themselves for the return of a cobbles icon if artificial intelligence has called it right.

The AI also reckons we're going to see another character brought back from dead after 13 years later this year. Fans have been glued to their screens after Henry Newton returned, but he's not the only familiar face who could be set to make a comeback.

The DailyStar decided to put the most popular creative tool Bard AI to the test and the results will probably leave the show's fans hoping it's right. That's because one of the names put forward is Cilla Battersby-Brown, played by Wendi Peters until she left the programme in 2015.

Gobby Cilla was a Street favourite, the loud and brash mum of Chesney and Fiz and if AI knows its stuff, there's even more to come. Another character it is convinced will return to the show is villain Tony Gordon, played by Gray O’Brien - despite being killed off in 2011.

It argued: “Cilla was a popular character who left Weatherfield in 2014. However, there have been rumours that she could return to the soap for a special one-off appearance.”

Bard AI went on: “Tony was a villain who was killed off in 2010, but there have been rumours that he could return to the soap as a ghost.”

Viewers will remember how Cilla bid farewell to her her kids to enjoy the bright lights of Las Vegas. Wendi briefly reprised the role of Cilla in 2014 for six weeks after a seven-year absence from the show before leaving again.

She met Les Battersby in the Rovers and he couple went on to tie the knot in 2005 in arguably one of the most explosive weddings the soap has ever seen, which was even gate-crashed by Status Quo.

But bosses will have their work cut out to lure her back, she signed up to star on Doctors in the New Year as the villainous Dr Nina Bulsara. They'll have even more of a job on writing Tony back in, the bad businessman who caused chaos wherever he went during his four-year stint on the cobbles.

The star met his demise at the hands of Carla Connor who shot him before he burnt to death in the factory explosion. But it appears not even death is enough to keep Tony down, as the AI program predicted he could be back.
