Megan Thee Stallion shared a powerful message during a statement read in Tory Lanez's sentencing hearing Tuesday after the rapper was given 10 years in prison for shooting her in 2020.

Megan could not stand to be in the same room as Lanez during the hearing, but had her statement read aloud in court. It said: "He not only shot me, he made a mockery of my trauma. This is a statement for all survivors that their lives matter and there is zero tolerance for the torture that accompanies violence."

Megan Thee Stallion, legally known as Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, felt that she needed to express her side of the traumatic experience as the shooting incident started a deeper discussion about violence against Black women. Megan had previously denied any romantic connection to Tory before the trail, but later told the jury she lied because she was disgusted she "shared her body with someone who would shoot her."

During the court hearing Tuesday Tory, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, was found guilty of carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle, assault with a semiautomatic handgun, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. The hearing was led by Judge David Herriford at the Los Angeles Superior Court after being pushed back due to delays.

Jose Baez, the attorney representing the 30-year-old rapper, told reporters outside the courthouse he thought the rapper's sentence was too harsh and that Tory would appeal his conviction. His lawyer claimed that he had not received a fair trail and they had sought a sentence of probation.

This sentencing came after Tory was said to have shot artist Megan Thee Stallion and injured her feet after a pool party at Kylie Jenner's home in Hollywood Hills during July of 2020. The shooting followed a heated car ride that sparked an argument after the two rappers reportedly attacked one another's careers. At the time the two were heading to their rental home in a black SUV driven by Tory's security guard.

The pair asked the security guard to pull over and Megan exited the car. Tory then reportedly pulled a handgun and shot at her feet. After the incident, Megan had to stay in the hospital for four days and underwent surgery before going to physical therapy to walk again.
