A couple suspected of dining and dashing without paying their £88 bill are being sought by police officers.

The pair allegedly failed to settle their hefty tab at The Denison Arms, near Scarborough, North Yorkshire, before leaving on June 25. The suspected incident took place at around 4.30pm when they are believed to have left together in a red Citroen Berlingo.

North Yorkshire Police have now asked residents to look out for the couple as they continue their inquiries into the incident, issuing CCTV images of a man and woman they wish to speak to.

A spokesperson from the force said: “Officers are asking members of the public to get in touch if they recognise the people in the images as they believe they will have information that will help the investigation.”

Earlier today another couple who enjoyed a £56 meal before running off without paying the bill claimed they had a good reason after they faced stinging criticism online. Ruby McGrath, 32, and Suzy Hopley, 33, enjoyed a meal with their two kids at the Smithy Arms, in Swinton, North Yorkshire. But instead of settling the bill before heading off, the couple left without paying.

They were soon identified after pub landlady Lisa McMaster, shared CCTV footage of them, and soon were slammed for their actions online. In a cutting statement posted on Facebook, she wrote: "How nice of you to come for a meal and drinks and run without paying. Staying on a campsite near."

The couple came under fire online for their actions, but Ruby defended their actions and explain why they left without a word to bar staff. reported that in a since deleted Instagram post Ruby wrote: "Usually I'd ignore ridiculous online hate, but this also involves my children.

“I'm just popping on to say that last night we had a delicious meal and experienced brilliant service at The Smithy Arms in Swinton, but sadly our visit was cut short and we had to dash - poor Frank didn't even get to have his ice cream - due to a personal emergency.”
