A husband has given a heartbreaking tribute to his wife, a nurse, who died hiking in 45.5°C (114F) heat at the same beauty spot where he proposed.

Mother-of-four, 34-year-old Jessica Christine Lindstrom, lost her life while hiking in the scorching heat of the Deem Hills Recreation Area.

Jessica, a registered nurse from Oregon, went missing during a hike on Friday morning, triggering a massive search and rescue operation.

Her body was discovered on a remote trail on the north side of the recreation area after an extensive five-hour search. The location where Jessica died was the very same spot where her husband, Daniel, had proposed to her 11 years ago.

In an emotional statement, he said: "I am so deeply touched by all the outpouring of love and support for me and my family under these difficult circumstances. All those who knew Jessica can attest that she was devoted to anything she put her mind to. She was a very loyal friend and kind to everyone she came in contact with."

"I was head over heels when we started dating and knew right away she was the one. Coincidentally, I proposed to her at Deem Hills, where she ultimately succumbed to death. So eternally grateful that she said 'YES' and gave me a chance. I married my best friend and into the most amazing family! Me and my boys are deeply saddened, but we feel the love from everyone so abundantly."

The Phoenix area has been grappling with scorching temperatures, with the thermometer soaring to 115°F (45.5°C) on the day Jessica went missing. Authorities have reported at least seven heat-related deaths in the region during this period.

Phoenix Fire Department Captain Kimberly Ragsdale said:"We just want to remind everybody right now during this heat to be very mindful of the times you're hiking and to take every safety precaution you can while hiking."

The National Weather Service confirmed that July 2023 was the hottest month on record in Phoenix, with average temperatures reaching an unprecedented 102.7°F (39.28°C).
