Street Fighter 6 x Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles event announced
Street Fighter 6's newest collab is with none other than the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, who are taking over the game's Battle Hub for the foreseeable future.
Street Fighter 6 headlined EVO 2023 with an incredible final set which saw UAE's AngryBird take the top place in the 7000+ player bracket, triumphing over Red Bull Kumite 2023 champion – and the reigning Capcom Cup champion – the Dominican Republic's MenaRD. MenaRD managed to reset the bracket after rising through the losers bracket and taking down heavy hitters such as Punk and three time EVO champion Tokido, but came up short, with AngryBird taking the set 3-1.
It's tradition for new fighting game reveals to be shown off at EVO, while other games like Tekken, Guilty Gear, and Mortal Kombat 1 all had brand new character reveals, Capcom kicked things off with an unconventional announcement. Capcom's in-house band CAP-JAMS appeared in the arena began performing a Street Fighter-flavoured rendition of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme (with vocals from the voice of Luke in Street Fighter 6 – Aleks Le) before debuting a trailer showing off a collab with the radical reptiles.
Not only are the Turtles taking over the Battle Hub, but avatar costumes featuring the lads themselves are also available in the game now, with other fun bits like Emotes, Stamps, and photo mode additions included too. So you can now play through Street Fighter 6's World Tour story mode as Michelangelo if you want.
Although, that's not all, Capcom also gave us our first look at the next DLC character for the game – the newcomer A.K.I. Since Rashid was only just released, unfortunately the trailer didn't show off how the character would play, but it gave us our first look at her sadistic personality as she poisions the player character and taunts them as they succumb to it. Safe to say this new character is set to replace one of the Street Fighter series' biggest missteps – Street Fighter 5's F.A.N.G, by inheriting his toxic traits.
Why Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's six week delay is a good thingShell of a time
This is the type of thing I like to see, the Street Fighter 6 Battle Hub is already goofy enough as it is, and introducing silly collabs like this is a perfect way to capitalise on that. Considering the sheer amount of properties Capcom has under its belt, there's an endless amount of crossovers you could do with the game.
My only complaint is that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles content is exclusive to avatars, hopefully, future crossovers take a page out of Street Fighter 5's crossover costumes and give them to some of the fighters (E.Honda is a perfect candidate for a turtle costume). So while this crossover is a lot of fun, I can't help but feel that Capcom could've made it even better.
