When trying to lose weight, it can be hard to stick to a strict diet plan. Cutting out your favourite foods can only make us just crave them even more. Whilst exercising is important, feeding our bodies with nutritional food is just as paramount but how do you know what is actually beneficial?

The long-claimed myth that cutting out carbs helps with losing weight might just be proven wrong. We might not need to ditch bread and pasta anymore as an expert has shared how we can still indulge in our favourite foods that have always been branded as 'bad' foods for trying to shed some pounds.

The next time you crave some carbs, you can eat them without feeling guilty as it's 'all about how they're served' explained personal trainer Nick Mitchell the founder of Ultimate Performance. The glycaemic index is a way of ordering carbohydrates based on how quickly we digest them. According to Nick, cold carbohydrates have a lower glycaemic level so we're feeling fuller for longer, as he says that 'foods with a lower glycaemic index can help you lose weight.

He also shared that: "They can also stop the sharp rise and fall of blood sugar levels that result in hunger pangs, which can lead to raiding the cupboard, binge eating and weight gain."

So next time you're cooking pasta or serving up some potatoes, consider having them cooler rather than piping hot and you'll notice you feel fuller and satisfied for longer. Cooking them the day before also helps, and can help you meal prep for the week making it easier for when you want a quick and easy meal.

If you still want to be mindful of the carbs you do consume, you can make some simple switches to help with weight loss too. According to fitness experts at Breaking Muscle, there are specifically five foods that you should incorporate into your diet. One switch they recommend making is opting for brown rice, which is a great addition to make the most of your workouts, Liverpool Echo reports.

They explained: "Containing fibre, complex carbohydrates, proteins, and antioxidants - and with healthy fat, it supplies your body with long-term energy during workouts." The high fibre content in brown rice also means that a person is more likely to feel full, which can help prevent snacking and help with weight loss. Another healthy swap is sweet potatoes, which have high fibre and water content that helps keep you full for longer.
