Angela Scanlon has been announced as the sixth star joining Strictly Come Dancing 2023. However, the Irish star, 39, has admitted to dropping several clues ahead of the announcement on Monday morning on BBC Radio 2.

Talking about joining the hit BBC One dancing competition to Gaby Roslin, the latter pointed out that Angela may have hinted at Strictly on her show Your Home Made Perfect. Gaby, 59, said: "In Your Home Made Perfect, a couple of weeks ago, we saw you dancing around a kitchen so that could have been a little clue, you see!"

With Angela admitting in response: "Ooh yeah, well, a little easter egg! I've been kind of dropping them around, I've been trying to limber up." The star revealed that she had been performing an Irish dance, explaining: "You basically grab your partner by the hand, it sounds like line dancing, and swing them around at top speed. I'm not sure if those kinds of moves are generally encouraged on Strictly so we will soon find out I guess!"

Prior to the big reveal on Monday's BBC Radio 2 the star, who had been rumoured for months to be joining Strictly, also hinted at the news on Instagram. Posting over the weekend, Angela wrote alongside a video of herself on the beach: "Breaking my social media holiday ban to tell you that TOMORROW I’m going to tell you something BIG!!! I know. I’ll be on @bbcradio2 with @gabyroslin & I think I might burst. ANY IDEAS?!?"

Angela's 265K followers were quick to guess it was Strictly, as one person said: "Da dada daaaa, da da daaaaaaa, dada da da!", with a glitterball emoji. A different account put: "Strictly??? PLEASE BE STRICTLY!!!", another fan wrote: "Omg, it so is strictly. Eeeek" with a series of excited emojis, while a different person added: "Deffo strictly. Winner winner chicken dinner" with heart emojis. The star has also been posting a lot of outfits with sequins, which didn't go unnoticed by fans as one person commented with "this outfit", alongside heart eyes and a glitterball emoji, which is associated with Strictly.

The presenter said of joining: "I’m terrified, I’m excited and I have so many questions. Will they make me tan? How itchy are sequins?! Do they do flesh coloured sports bras? Well - there’s only one way to find out, right!? Now I’m panicking a bit… but also secretly thrilled about the prospect of all that glitter. Let’s go!"

Angela added on BBC Radio 2 of whether she had kept Strictly a secret: "I've told a few people... I think I've been grappling myself and hoping for some feedback. So I've been saying: 'What do you think about this?' I don't know that I've kept it [secret]. I was ready to burst! So I've told 1700 of my closest friends."
