AI might become the key to finding true love, if Tinder goes ahead with new features

It could become much easier to meet the love of your life on Tinder—thanks to AI.

The dating app giant has revealed it is working on new AI features which can scan through your smartphone photos and choose the best-looking photos for your profile.

You'll just have to give an AI permission to rifle through all of your personal images in order to get personalised advice on which of your photos are hot or not. It will then come back with what it thinks are your five best photos and offer to put them front and centre of your profile.

Bernard Kim, CEO of Tinder owners Match Group, told investors this week: "I really think AI can help our users build better profiles in a more efficient way that really do showcase their personalities."

Currently, Tinder has a 'smart photos' feature which automatically changes the order of your profile photos depending on other users' reactions to them. But the introduction of AI to the app marks a major step forward.

The tool hasn't been rolled out to users yet, and is just one of a number of 'generative AI' initiatives the company is working on behind closed doors. This includes a plan to use AI to "surface the right content to the right people to help improve relevancy and, ultimately, user outcomes"; in other words, to use AI as a kind of matchmaker for the app's 75 million users.

Tinder's chief product officer, Mark Van Ryswyk, has even suggested that the app might introduce AI tools which can help users write their profile bios based on their preferences for 'interests' and 'relationship goals'.

There's no confirmation from Tinder as to when, or if, its AI features will reach its active user base of 75 million people.

But there are already numerous AI tools which some Tinder users rely on to help them get matches. One app, called Photo AI, lets people generate their own AI-powered selfies for use on their Tinder profiles. Just when you thought modern dating couldn't get any more cold and technological, guess what? It can.
