Heartstopper's season two may have only dropped on Netflix on August 3, but fans of the LBGTQ+ teen drama are already desperate to know when its next series is set to be released.

Based on Alice Oseman's bestselling graphic novel series of the same name, the hit show has been met by widespread critical acclaim ever since it premiered in April 2022. As well as receiving rave reviews (it currently averages a rating of 8.7/10 on Rotten Tomatoes), Heartstopper has also won a litany of awards and was among the top ten most-watched English language shows on Netflix within 48 hours of its release.

Starring Joe Locke as lovable protagonist Charlie Spring and Kit Connor as leading romantic interest, Nick Nelson, the wholesome British series follows the lives of a group of teenagers navigating the world of school, friendships, relationships, and of course, love. As well as featuring a strong representation of LBGTQ+ youth, Heartstopper also explores issues such as mental health, bullying and family conflict.

What is the plot of Heartstopper season three?

With Heartstopper season two leaving viewers on a major cliff-hanger, it's safe to say the third series will continue to keep fans on the edge of their seats. In the final episode of the latest season, Charlie types out the words 'I Love You' to Nick – but whether or not he actually sends the text message remains unknown. The upcoming series is almost certain to pick up from this poignant moment, and hopefully, see Charlie and Nick's blossoming romance reach the next stage.

Season two also covered volume two and three of Oseman's graphic novel series, which means volume four is likely to inspire the plot-line for season three. In the fourth instalment of the books, Nick tries to support Charlie through his struggle with an eating disorder, an issue which is lightly introduced in the second series.

Volume four also sees the adorable teenage couple enjoy the summer together before starting a new college, which means we can likely expect lots of school scenes from the the next batch of episodes.
