Mike Tyson will train Francis Ngannou and be in the former UFC champion's corner for his fight against Tyson Fury.

Ngannou makes his boxing debut on October 29 against heavyweight champion Fury in Saudi Arabia. The fight will take place over 10 three-minute rounds and will go on both men's professional records, but Fury's WBC title won't be on the line as Ngannou is not ranked by the organisation.

Tyson welcomed the idea of coaching Ngannou in an interview last month and the heavyweight legend has now followed up on his promise, stating:. "It is no secret I back Ngannou 100 per cent in this face-off of champions. He has one hard punch, and when it lands, it’s game over.

"I am looking forward to working with Ngannou and supporting his transition from the octagon to the boxing ring. He isn’t a combat novice, he is a world champion. The key will be combining his energy and combat skills into his punches and using his agility to move swiftly around the ring then delivering the knock-out blow. We’re here to win.”

Ngannou trains at Xtreme Couture MMA in Las Vegas and it's expected his longtime coaches Dewey Cooper and Eric Nicksick will also remain in his corner for the fight. Nicksick said Ngannou plans to also train with other boxing coaches before the fight to work on aspects of his game such as strength and conditioning.

"I'll be part of the team, Francis kind of laid it out like 'Look, I'm going to have a boxing team but I want you and Dewey to be involved at whatever capacity you both feel comfortable with'. I plan on being in Saudi Arabia with him for the entire month of October," Nicksick told MMA Junkie.

"I'm excited for him and to be honest, it lays a lot off pressure off me to try and go and figure out Tyson Fury. At the end of the day we are all family and very close, I'm happy to be involved in this historic event at whatever capacity he needs me at."
