X Factor winners Jade Thirlwall and Joe McElderry have reunited 14 years after being on the show.

The pair have joined forces as they hosted a Pride event in their hometown of South Shields. Joe, 32, won the show back in 2009 while Jade, 30, took the crown alongside her fellow Little Mix stars in 2011. Jade took to her social media page to share a series of photos alongside Joe as they hosted the special event. In the caption she explained that she hoped the day left people "feeling inspired and liberated".

She wrote: "Last week we hosted our first ever @stonewalluk x @arbeiasouthshields Pride event in my hometown of South Shields and it was even better than I imagined. We had a community fair, a Stonewall empowerment workshop for young people followed by the most incredible entertainment.

"It's so important to create safe spaces in our hometowns, where everybody feels comfortable to be themselves without question - and to also provide education to those who may want or need to learn more about LGBTQ+ history and allyship."

Jade added: "Stonewall, thank you SO much for working with me to bring this event to the town and for all that you do for the whole community. Thank you to the Arbeia team and local businesses that took part."

She then went on to specifically mention Joe as she thanked him for performing and giving "people the night of their lives".

"We raised money and awareness but most importantly I hope people left the event feeling inspired and liberated. Can’t wait for the next one," Jade concluded.

Joe has remained in showbiz ever since winning The X Factor more than 10 years ago. He has worked in pantomime as well as starring in musicals such as taking on the title role of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. He has also starred in reality shows including Popstar To Operastar and The Jump.

He was awarded a record deal with Simon Cowell's label Syco following the show but was dropped in 2011 after his single Someone Wake Me Up sold a reported 7,000 copies. Meanwhile, Jade has enjoyed a successful career alongside her Little Mix bandmates. She has sang in multiple number one hits as well as toured the world. However, Jade and her fellow Little Mix band members took a hiatus from the band last year – with each member now pursuing their own solo projects.
