Cher Lloyd in tears and 'blames' herself over pregnancy health diagnosis

Cher Lloyd has revealed she felt "scared and confused" after being diagnosed with gestational diabetes while pregnant with her second child. The 29-year-old singer, who is expecting her second child with husband Craig Monk, "got the call" last week and admitted she "instantly blamed" herself.

Singer Cher, 30, opened up on the diagnosis on Instagram as she called on her fans who have suffered with the same condition for support and advice.

She wrote: "I got the call last week to tell me I had gestational diabetes. I burst into tears. I felt scared, confused and instantly blamed myself. I've spent most of my time researching gestational diabetes and trying to find recipes and ways to control it.

"I'm still getting used to the changes and how this might affect the rest of my pregnancy. I just wanted to reach out to any fellow gestational diabetes mamas out there sharing advise, stories and suggestions. Sending love."

Gestational diabetes is high blood sugar and can develop at any time during pregnancy although, it is more common in the second or third trimester. The condition usually disappears after the baby is born, according to the NHS.

Cher, who finished fourth on the 2010 series of X Factor, announced her pregnancy with her second child in April.

She posted a sweet video showing her ultrasound scan with a knitted white baby co-ord set and a grey hat. Cher captioned the video: "Baby number 2, we can't wait to meet you."

After tying the knot in November 2013, Cher announced her first pregnancy with husband Craig in 2018.

Posting a photo of her bump on Instagram, she wrote: "I'm so happy to announce that I now have a collection of amazing new songs (that I cannot wait to share with you all!), but also, there's another reason why I'm writing to you today and that's because I am beyond thrilled to inform you all that my husband Craig and I are also expecting our first child in May!!!"

After her stint on X Factor in 2010, Cher released her first single Swagger Jagger, followed by her debut album Sticks and Stones. In 2013, it was confirmed the singer had parted ways with Simon Cowell's Syco Records.
