The newest Samsung tablet is here with a 'hidden' discount for previous shoppers

The Galaxy Tab S9 Series is the shiny new tablet range from Samsung, that was shown off last week at the firm's Unpacked event. These latest devices come packed with a swathe of upgrades including a new design that's totally water resistant - not even Apple's popular iPad can beat that. Prices start from a pretty hefty £799 but a current pre-order deal can slash that cost by up to £650. And it's pretty easy to do.

All you need is an old device, such as a tablet or smartphone to trade in whilst you add a Tab S9, S9+ or S9 Ultra to your Samsung basket. And it doesn't have to be a Galaxy-branded device.

  • Get £650 off the newest Galaxy Tab S9 range

Samsung has added one of its biggest tablet competitors, Apple, to its list of tradeable devices and those with the 'old' iPad Pro 6 (2TB 2022 model) will get the biggest £650 discount off the £799 Tab S9. Although there are still a load more options if you (like many) don't have the iPad Pro 6 sat useless at home - more than 70 other options to be exact.

The newest Tab S9 Series starts at £799 for the smaller S9 model, rises to £999 for the middle S9+ and up to £1,199 for the biggest S9 Ultra device that includes a 14.6-inch display. Although less than a week old the three models have already 'boosted' it to the top of the charts when it comes to Android tablets.

Those who didn't pre-order the device missed out on the chance to get free storage on the S9+ model, which saved early shoppers £100, as the middle S9+ could be bought for the same price as the smallest S9 model. Unlike the short-lived pre-order deals Samsung's trade-in deal will stick around until August 10, the day before the devices are added to UK retail shelves.

So, how much can you get for handing in an old tablet? The maximum price for trading an Apple device is £650 off the Tab S9 price, which is currently on the iPad Pro 6. Moving across to Samsung's own brand and the maximum shoppers could get off is £450, for those with the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra 5G.

Other Galaxy tablets included in the trade-off list are those in the Galaxy 7 range (Wifi, LTE and FE editions), the Galaxy Tab 6 and Galaxy Tab 6 Lite Wifi, as well as selected Tab 5 and Tab 4 models. The lowest amount a shopper can get off is £180 by trading in a Galaxy Tab ProS or an iPad 6 (2018 model).

If you have a tablet ready to trade-in it could mean the price of the newest Tab S9 is slashed to as low as £149, and possibly the lowest price it'll ever be on the market again (at least for a couple of years anyway). But all is not lost for shoppers who don't have an extra tablet to hand.

Samsung is still offering a unique access code to enter at checkout, and it'll give all 'non-tradeable' shoppers £100 off the total price of the Tab S9 model they buy. All you have to do is enter 100TABS9³ and the discount will be applied to your online basket.

How to trade in a device at Samsung

Step one is to find out how much you can get for your old device, the simplest step of all to do. First head to the Tab S9 page on the Samsung site and under the colour and storage options you'll find the 'trade-in' section. Once here click on 'tablet' and choose from either Apple or Samsung, it's here more than 70 device models will pop up.

Once you've found your specific device name, enter the storage size and click 'continue'. Then head to the Samsung checkout.

To apply the relevant trade-in discount, all shoppers have to enter the specific IMEI code of their trade-in device (all unique) and once entered the discount will be taken off the basket amount.

Now you can pay (with the discount of course) as normal and you have seven days to send Samsung your old device, from as soon as you receive the freepost packaging Samsung provide. All shoppers are urged to wipe their personal files and do a 'factory reset' on the model before posting.
