Corrie's star Tina O'Brien says cast were forced to change name of group chat

Tina O’Brien says all the actors in the Platt family have an off-screen group chat but they've been left with little alternative to change its name.

Nearly 25 years after joining, the Sarah Platt star revealed they're all so close they keep in touch when the cameras stop rolling. Tina, who turns 40 next week, knows her character's life is about to unravel as the truth about Damon Hay being the dad of her unborn child was made public by husband Adam Barlow in last night's episode.

Tina spoke to the Manchester Evening News about her latest storyline before being asked about recently picking up the award for 'best soap family' on behalf of The Platts at the British Soap Awards. She says she has so much love for them all – a far cry from what we see on-screen when they are often all at each other's throats. Like the Platts, the actors have their own 'family' WhatsApp group but it was re-named after they were left with little choice.

Welling up as she spoke about her co-stars, she said: "I could get quite emotional about it. I love Helen (Worth – Gail Platt) and Sue (Nicholls – Audrey Roberts) so much. I started on that show when I was 16-year-old and Helen has shown me nothing but love since day one.

"And what she's managed to do is create a feeling on set that we are a collaboration. Not to be rude or anything but you can work with other people and they can be a bit this or be a bit that (but) Helen is all about making something that works and it's enabled us to find out own little faux family. I genuinely sometimes spend more time with the Platt family than I get to with my own family and I adore them all. Ben (Price – Nick Tilsley) it the one I turn to for advice and we do have our own little 'Platt Chat' in real life."

But she revealed: "It was called 'Plattz', but when it came on-screen that we had 'Platt Chat' we changed it to reflect what's on screen." Fans were stunned by Sarah's affair, leaving husband Adam heartbroken. Things got even worse when she pretended her baby belonged to him with her uncle Stephen stepping in to add to the issues with a faked DNA letter.

Tina still hopes they can rekindle their relationship despite bad behaviour on both sides. She said: "What he did was very cruel and painful, but there is a bit of me that thinks she behaved appallingly so she can’t start living in glass houses.

"I can see why she tried to do it and it’s come from the best intentions, but something like that’s never going to go well. I don’t think personally it’s something I could ever deal with on my conscience for my whole life. I think something like that must literally eat away at you."

Tina has daughter Scarlett, 14, with ex-partner and co-star Ryan Thomas and eight-year-old son Beau with husband Adam Crofts. Anne Kirkbride, who played Deirdre from 1972 to 2014, died in 2015 aged 60.
