Corrie's Tina O'Brien thinks Sarah baby dad drama may create new Ken and Deirdre

Sarah and Adam as dad of baby is revealed

Tina O’Brien’s latest Corrie story has all the hallmarks of a Ken and

plot.

Viewers last night watched her character Sarah Platt’s life unravel as the truth about Damon Hay being the dad of her unborn child was made public by husband Adam Barlow. And Tina, who has played Sarah for 24 years, reckons the couple’s dramas could turn them into the new Ken and Deirdre. The actor got the idea from veteran star William Roache, who plays Ken.

Tina, who turns 40 next week, said: “It’s never up to me anyway, it’s all down to the writers. I think Sarah and Adam probably still love each other. There’s a really nice scene where Adam’s with his grandad, and he’s trying to ­self-explain his time with Deirdre.

“There were a lot of affairs, and lots of ups and downs, but at the end of the day, they were each other’s person. So I’d like to think that Sarah and Adam are each other’s person.” Sarah has been trying to fool Adam into thinking the baby was his. The truth was revealed in ­spectacular fashion when a balloon designed to reveal the tot’s gender instead declared: “It’s Damon’s.”

And while Sarah quickly realises Adam is behind the stunt, Tina still hopes they can rekindle their ­relationship despite bad behaviour on both sides. She said: “What he did was very cruel and painful, but there is a bit of me that thinks she behaved appallingly so she can’t start living in glass houses.

“I can see why she tried to do it and it’s come from the best ­intentions, but something like that’s never going to go well. I don’t think personally it’s something I could ever deal with on my conscience for my whole life. I think something like that must literally eat away at you.”

But there is more misery in store for Sarah as she loses the baby in tomorrow’s show after being rushed to hospital with ­crippling stomach pains. Despite the agony of the hospital scenes, Tina said she’d “loved” filming the gripping storyline alongside Sam Robertson as Adam and Ciaran Griffiths, who plays Damon in the ITV soap. She added: “I’ve really enjoyed it. It’s been interesting.”

Tina has daughter Scarlett, 14, with ex-partner and co-star Ryan Thomas and eight-year-old son Beau with husband Adam Crofts. Anne Kirkbride, who played Deirdre from 1972 to 2014, died in 2015 aged 60.
