Capital FM radio host Roman Kemp has laid down his conditions for becoming a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing - and has taken an inadvertent swipe at the BBC show in the process.

The 30-year-old radio host - who is the son of Spandau Ballet legend Martin Kemp and Wham! songstress Shirlie Holliman - is no stranger to the reality show circuit, having previously appeared on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! back in 2019. And while he wouldn’t necessarily say no to featuring on the hit BBC dance series Strictly Come Dancing, he does have one strict rule that he would need to be satisfied before he would sign up for the show.

Roman - who has been romantically linked to a string of beauties in the past including German model Jette Kerkhoff and Swiss neuroscientist Anne-Sophie Flury - fears the shadow of the fabled ‘Strictly Curse’ would hang too closely over his performances for him to consider being on the show. However, he has come up with one way to outsmart the inevitable romance rumours that being on the show would entail.

Discussing Strictly with OK! Magazine, Roman said: “The only way I’d do Strictly is if I was teamed up with Johannes [Radebe]. I think sometimes the show takes away from the skill of the dancers and it becomes like a soap opera of who’s dating who.”

His remark highlights the fact that a number of Strictly stars have seen their marriages and relationships implode while taking part on the show as they dump significant others and then run off with their dance partners. However, Roman thinks that being paired with a man would eliminate any speculation that he could be having a fling with his dance partner.

He added: “I’d want to be focused on the dancing and enjoying who I’m dancing with, not feeling like, ‘Oh God, is someone going to write a story about me?’ – I would never want that. So, if I was teamed up in a same-sex pairing, it would be brilliant because I’d just be focusing on the show.”

Johannes made Strictly history in 2021 when he was in the first same-sex male couple after being paired with Bake Off star John Whaite - with the lads making it to the final and landing as runners-up behind overall winners Rose Ayling-Ellis and Giovanni Pernice. While the first-ever same-sex coupling came in 2020 when Katya Jones was partnered with Olympic boxer Nicola Adams - but they were unfortunately forced to withdraw from the competition after three weeks after one of the pair contracted the coronavirus at a time before vaccines were available.

And Johannes had previously danced with a man during a professionals group performance back in 2019 where he teamed up with Graziano di Prima for a same-sex dance-off.

Gushing about his achievement at the time, Johannes said: “Since that dance in heels, I’ve gone on to perform the show’s first same-sex partner dance with Graziano – which was so special and I couldn’t have been happier to be the face of it.”
