What's thought to be the cheapest pint of Guinness in the UK can be found at a pub in Worcester - and it'll set you back just £2.

The Feathers is offering a pint of the black stuff for less than half of its average price.

Research carried out earlier this year revealed the average cost of a pint of Guinness in the UK has risen to a staggering £4.14. Meanwhile a draught pint of lager - the nation's beer of choice - now costs an average of $4.56, jumping by approximately 50p in just 12 months.

Over the Jubilee weekend last year some boozers in London were seen charging as much as £8 for a pint, sparking fears some pubgoers will choose to stay home to save money. The Feathers said it had decided to offer the bargain stout as people continue to struggle during the cost of living crisis.

Owner Justin Cull said: “The price of everything is going up at the moment - especially drinks. Things are tough for us as a business and for our customers, people who are working hard for a living, so I thought ‘let’s do something mental’.

“We’re going to be offering a different beer for a ridiculous price every month and this month it’s Guinness - it’s a popular drink here so why not? Next month it’ll be HPA at £2 a pint - a good local drink very popular in Worcestershire.

“It’s nice to be able to do something for people and obviously for us, it gets people through the door. And people do appreciate it - I know, because they tell me.”

In 2022 the Mirror reported that pub firms were concerned prices might increase even more due to supply issues related to the war in Ukraine. The country is a global supplier of barley, a key ingredient of beer, and wheat meaning the cost of grain has soared.

Pints would cost 60p less if the price had increased in line with average consumer prices from 2008 to 2022. Brexit is another factor with trade barriers pushing up prices by six per cent in less than two years, according to figures from think tank UK in a changing Europe. This has had major consequences given that most of the UK's imports come from the European Union.
