United States men's national team midfielder Yunus Musah is set to join fellow American star Christian Pulisic at AC Milan on a $22 million (£17m) transfer from Valencia. He will be thrilled to play alongside his compatriot at the club level after raving about the ex-Chelsea player during their time at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Pulisic scored a crucial goal in the group stage against Iran, putting his body on the line to drive in a Sergino Dest cross as he collided with the goalkeeper. Musah greatly appreciated the selfless effort and commended his reliable teammate for leading by example.

"Yeah, he's done it again, he's done it again," Musah said with a grin after full-time of the World Cup match. "He brings a lot to the team. A great guy off the field, a very nice guy. And on the field, everyone sees his brilliance.

"He's there at the right time in the right space. So, I'm very happy that he's my teammate, I always get to learn from him and he's a great guy."

Musah, 20, chose to represent the U.S. ahead of England and has been a mainstay in the Stars and Stripes midfield ever since. Pulisic, of course, is another first-choice player whenever he's fit. The duo will be in the mix to start at the 2026 World Cup in what could shape up to be one of the strongest USMNT sides ever after recently securing the commitment of Folarin Balogun.

They are both former London dwellers — Musah came up in Arsenal's academy — and have much in common, each entering the USMNT as wonderkids. Fans expected a lot from them from the outset, and for the most part, they've delivered. The New York-born Musah is happy with his choice to compete with the Americans.

"He came in smiling ear to ear," remembered Gregg Berhalter of Musah's first USMNT training session. "He endears people to him very quickly because of his personality. He's a great guy and we're proud to see his development."

Musah added: "I didn't know what to expect at all, but once I went to that camp, everything was just great. They really welcomed me. Every player, on and off the pitch, we really clicked. We had a great style of play and things like that really helps. As soon as you start playing football with each other, you start knowing each other better."

That trademark smile will undoubtedly be on display again when Musah appears at AC Milan training for the first time and links back up with Pulisic, who signed with the Italian club from Chelsea earlier this summer.

This move is a step up for Musah after he navigated a La Liga relegation battle in 2022/23. AC Milan are in the Champions League, giving the 2022 U.S. Soccer Young Male Player of the Year his first taste of major European tournament action.
