A Nevada man suspected of killing his girlfriend and keeping her body in a closet for two months has told police he "believed she might come back to life". George Bone is charged with the murder of Beverly Ma. Ma was found in Bone's Las Vegas closet with a belt around her neck, Fox 5 Vegas reports.

Local authorities believe Ma was in the 31-year-old's closet for about two months before she was discovered, as Bone was afraid of going to jail. He is said to have kept the air conditioning on at 60 degrees because of the number of flies that had overtaken the house, according to an arrest report.

According to the report, Bone allegedly told investigators that the purpose of the cooler was to see if she woke up. He is said to have told them that the cooler would alert him if Ma "rose from the dead like the movie 'The Grudge.'"

The discovery came after Ma's family became concerned for her welfare so went to the house. They had tried to call her 84 times.

When they arrived, Bone told them she was dead and led her to the closet in which he had been keeping the body. He claims she died from suicide.

Bone's demeanour is described as being "nonchalant" and he reportedly told Ma's family that he didn't call authorities because he knew he'd be arrested "for being a person of colour."

The arrest report states that the interview came to a conclusion when Bone said: "Since my truth is sounding so much like lies, I think I need to get an attorney". Bone is scheduled to appear in court on August 1 after a judge denied bond during his first court appearance on July 27.

Ma is said to have suffered a lot of trauma and was not close with her family, however they did try to reach out to her and offer support regularly. One family member said that they last saw Ma alive in April 2023.

Ma's family last received a text from the woman on June 22 indicating that she would not be in attendance for a July 4 celebration in Washington as she wanted to be sober and not travel. She was last contacted by family on July 2 but they never heard back, according to the arrest report.
