A man came dangerously close to being mauled to death by a massive 12-foot, 600-pound alligator named Elvis.

The encounter was captured on video by visitors who were at the Colorado Gator Farm. The man, identified only as Chad, is seen on the footage attempting to feed the enormous reptile a large raw turkey.

A tour guide at the gator farm explained the feeding patterns of these creatures, highlighting their aggressive behavior when fighting over food. "If they can't get another alligator - like if we threw the turkey in there, there would be seven or eight of them tearing it apart death rolling in opposite directions to tear it apart."

As Chad approached the bank with the turkey in hand, Elvis patiently waited in the water. "They're incredibly smart, and he's like 'ok, I don't have the food'," the tour guide remarked, "he knows the food is in the yellow bucket and Chad has got the food, so he's going to go talk to Chad."

With caution, Chad tossed the turkey toward Elvis, aiming to feed the hungry alligator. However, he lost his footing on the slippery bank and stumbled to the ground. Elvis lunged towards him, attempting to snatch the food. Chad struggled to regain his balance, slipping and rolling backward while Elvis continued to snap dangerously close to his leg.

The crowd watching can be heard gasping as the situation unfolded. The tour guide quickly intervened, instructing Elvis to "calm down", adding: "I told you guys it might be the last appearance. That's not the closest we've had to losing Chad yet or a leg."

Fortunately, Chad managed to avoid any serious injuries, and the gator farm later confirmed that he was unharmed.

The Colorado Gator Farm, founded in 1977, is home to approximately 300 live alligators of the American Alligator species, among other reptiles and animals. Despite being far from their native habitat, the alligators thrive in the farm's warm water.

The gator farm is also known for rescuing and providing shelter to various reptiles and animals, including alligators, Nile crocodiles, emus, albino gators, snakes, tortoises, frogs, and lizards.

In a Facebook post following the incident, the gator farm shared clips of the encounter and expressed gratitude to Chad for his role in the educational demonstration, adding a lighthearted note that he promised to work on his turkey-throwing aim.

It read: "In post of the businesses Facebook page, with a short clip of the incident they wrote: 'Over the weekend Elvis had a hard time deciding if he wanted to eat turkey or Chad's legs. Who knew a 12 ft 600lb alligator could run so fast.'

The post read: 'It's crazy how quickly doing an educational demonstration can turn dangerous.

"As you can see, Elvis wanted to eat the turkey Chad was offering. When the turkey didn't land in his mouth, Elvis was focused on where he saw movement.

"It's why whenever working with large reptile it's always good to have a backup with you! (and someone to record when it goes wrong.. He wasn't injured and he promised to work on this turkey throwing aim."
