Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello's bombshell divorce after 7 years of marriage

Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello shocked fans after it was revealed they were divorcing after seven years of marriage.

The former couple, who married in Palm Beach in 2015, shared a joint statement with fans to announce their breakup. It read: "We have made the difficult decision to divorce.

"As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives."

Joe has since filed for divorce from Sofia, citing "irreconcilable differences". The pair have a prenup in place, meaning each of them will keep the assets they accumulated during their marriage.

While neither Sofia nor Joe have commented on the reason behind their split, several sources have speculated about the split.

Conflicts over children

Prior to her relationship with Joe, Sofia was married to her high-school sweetheart Joe Gonzalez. She gave birth to their son Manolo Gonzalez Vergara in 1991 before they divorced two years later.

Sofia famously fought, and won, a seven-year court battle to destroy two frozen embryos she’d created with her ex-fiancé Nick Loeb, who had sought to bring them to term.

A source has claimed Sofia wanted to have a child with Joe Manganiello, but after years of trying they "came to the conclusion that they're too old". But this reportedly didn't stop Joe from wanting to be a dad.

Speaking to Page Six, a source said Joe had always wanted to become a father and those feelings "only intensified" in recent years.

A source has claimed Joe and Sofia drifted apart after the "true versions of themselves started showing". The pair are said to have had "different attitudes", with the source saying they actually first bonded over being opposites.

"Joe is a big kid, he loves playing Dungeons & Dragons, he loves wrestling, he is all about video games, superhero movies, comic books, going to concerts, huge NFL fan," the source said.

They said he loves "having a good time", but also knows when it's time to be serious. His personality was said to be an "immediate attraction" for Sofia who is "completely the opposite".

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the source added: "That was not really seen while they were falling in love, but then the true versions of themselves started showing and they just got annoyed with each other, choosing work over hanging out."
