Meghan Markle once made a particular facial expression that showed she "regretted" a comment about the Princess of Wales, according to a body language expert.

The revealing moment came during the famous sit-down interview with Oprah she and husband Prince Harry did in 2021. The chat made waves around the world as the couple unleashed bombshell after bombshell, from King Charles financially cutting Harry off to alleged racism in the palace to Meghan experiencing suicidal thoughts.

But according to Jesus Enrique Rosas, even more telling is what they didn't say - and what they gave away through subtle changes in expression and gesture. The American YouTuber has analysed many of Harry and Meghan's media appearances, but the Oprah interview provided him with several videos' worth of material.

Claiming to be able to tell whether Meghan's "struggle was real", Rosas - who goes by the channel name The Body Language Guy - scrutinised the Duchess' behaviour throughout the televised chat. He explained that there is always "an emotional component when people talk about these topics", so it is "very likely that we could catch emotional reactions" in Meghan's answers.

When Meghan was asked if she made Kate cry at her wedding, as had long been rumoured, she answered: "The narrative with Kate, which didn't happen, was really, really difficult and something that... I think that's when everything changed, really."

Rosas pointed out that when recalling the situation Meghan moves her eyes to the right, "to her creative side", and at the same time she presses her lips. The expert opined that the lip pressing indicates she is upset about the accusations, but "the eyes averting to her right signal that she's not in memory mode but instead, in creative mode".

When asked directly "Did you make Kate cry?" she simply said: "No." Rosas claimed that here, two gestures suggest that Meghan was "lying".

"She does a different kind of lip press this time, in which her lips turn upward and near her nose," he said. "She is not confident about what she is saying. And what's more, if you pay attention just to the left side of her face, you can see that she is showing contempt and joy. Neither of those emotions goes with what she's saying. That way we can assume that she's lying at that moment."

Meghan went on to say that in terms of which woman made the other cry, "the reverse happened". But Rosas says "right after saying that 'the reverse happened', she does a tongue show and again averted her eyes to her right".

"A tongue show can be a quick way to moisten your lips, but it's also a signal that people regret having said something," he explained. "So, if you stack the deceit signals you know that that part of the story is fabricated."

Rosas also pointed out that when Meghan mentioned Kate she tended to "raise her left eyebrow more" which he says could indicate jealousy. However he said that when Meghan was speaking about how she felt in the lead-up to her wedding to Harry, she seemed very genuine.

"Her hand gestures when she is talking about the wedding are in sync with her words," he said. "As she recalls her wedding day, both her facial expressions, her hands and her words are in sync with one another. We can assume that she's being truthful here."
