Jake Dennis believes it would be a "statement" if he were to beat the Jaguars to the Formula E driver's title.

The 28-year-old is aiming to become the first Brit to win the all-electric series and can complete the job in London if he holds onto his 24-point lead across the double header. Nick Cassidy is the man chasing him down with Mitch Evans still in with a chance, albeit a slim one.

The two hunters are powered by Jaguar powertrains, which has come on leaps since the opening round and looks to be the class of the field. Jaguar-powered cars have won six of the last nine races and either the work's team or Envision are favourites to claim the teams' championship.

Dennis' long run of podiums and win in Rome has allowed him to remain in front and, with what he believes will be an inferior package, he believes claiming the championship in his Andretti, powered by Porsche, will be a major achievement.

He told Mirror Sport: "It would be a really big statement - you do need a really good car to win the championship and we do have a really good car. I think we started off very strong and were the better package compared to the Jaguar, but now I think they're maybe slightly ahead. In Rome and London they will have the better package."

Dennis went on to add: "I feel like team-mates are going to play a really big part in this. (Sebastian) Buemi and (Sam) Bird are going to do everything they possibly can to not allow a Porsche powertrain to win the driver's championship. So it is not just Mitch and Nick who I've got to deal with, it is all four of them."

The Andretti star, who has won two of the four races at the Excel Centre venue, is ready to "get his elbows" out as he attempts to see out his advantage. Dennis has admitted he expects his rivals to be ahead of him on the grid come Saturday, but is happy to play the game as he looks to pick up the necessary points.

It has been five years since the man who won the drivers' title didn't drive the car that also claimed the teams' championship - that being Jean-Eric Vergne in 2018. Dennis can end that drought at a track where he's enjoyed the most success and is optimistic about finishing his home race as champion.

"I'm in a good headspace, feeling confident that the team can give me a good enough race car to get the job done," he said. "We don't need to win, just be clever and keep out of trouble."
