Supermum Helen Glover launches yet another Olympic bid today to find mini Team GB mascots for the Paris 2024 Games. The double gold medallist made history as the first mum to compete in rowing for the British team at the delayed Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Now team chiefs are looking to find five lucky mascots for the Games, which begin a year from today – and Helen is calling for parents and guardians to nominate their kids. Helen, 37, said: “It’s brilliant that Team GB is searching for kids to be official mini mascots for the team. It’s the first time this has ever been done.

“As a mum myself, I am excited to be a part of giving children all over the country this opportunity for the chance for their child to be selected.”

The selection process for the mascots is open from now until October. Any child living in the UK, aged 5-11, can be nominated and mascots will be announced in November. Helen, from Penzance, Cornwall, just missed out on a medal in Tokyo, having won coxless pairs gold in 2012 and 2016 alongside Heather Stanning.

She and TV presenter husband Steve Backshall have three kids – Logan, five, and twins Kit and Bo, three. Team GB chief Mark England said the Paris Games will feel like home for British athletes. He said: “I think the athletes will find it the most inspirational Games they have ever been in.”
