A pensioner, 81, claims her block of flats is "falling apart" and the "drug use is disgusting with people afraid to speak out" which has got to the point where she goes to bed "hoping not to wake up".

Residents of Saxton Gardens, in Leeds, have previously dubbed their home a "forgotten" estate with "leaky baths, a jungle park and a plague of rats" and now an elderly woman, who did not want to be named, claims that anti-social behaviour has also got out of hand.

The pensioner, who has lived on the estate for many years, claimed: "The balconies we have in our flats are disgusting, the doors need fixing, the security locks are broken - everything about the place is bad, they are letting the place fall apart and we never get an answer as to what's going on.

"There is pigeon poo on the balcony, the paint is falling off. I had to pay for someone to come out to do my balcony. And, I paid nearly £3,000 to do my own worktops in the kitchen because they had burn marks from the man who lived in here before me.

"The council offered to do them but said they would be in all different patterned material. I've just had my living room done too which I spent thousands on - after months of asking I gave up and paid for it all myself because the council don't do it. There was just another flood upstairs because the same pipe burst at top of stairs, which left a man with no water all weekend - we have no money."

The same resident has also complained of drugs misuse on the estate. She claims lots of people are coming in and out of estate that she is wary of - she is worried because of security and the doors on the blocks of flats don't close properly, reported LeedsLive.

"I am poorly and its quite serious, this used to be a lovely place to live, everyone was so neighbourly but now the people who they are putting in these flats are people coming out of prison and the drugs on this estate is disgusting. People are scared to speak up in case their name comes up to the wrong people," she claimed. "The stress is going to kill me."

She also generally said there was now a lack of community. She continued: "I'm too ill and too old for all of this, we have lovely big flats but no shops, no facilities, our bus service has had cuts and there is no Sunday bus at all. We are living in a concrete jungle.

"There are so many buildings being built around us, blocks and blocks of concrete flats being built on every bit of land - there is no feeling of community left at all now. I'm trying hard to get moved out, I'm classed as disabled but every time I ask to move someone else gets it over me. Its got to the point where I hope I go to bed on a night and don't wake up, that shows how depressed I am."

Despite these problems, other residents on the estate have thanked the council for the work and repairs made to their homes, and say they are now happy with life on Saxton Gardens.

A spokesperson for Leeds city council told LeedsLive: "We are sorry to hear that some residents living in Saxton Gardens have maintenance complaints and would encourage them to contact the council so we can address any specific concerns.

"We have carried out repairs to resolve some immediate issues with balconies on the estate. We are in the process of arranging surveys to all the blocks in Saxton Gardens to determine the need for any further balcony repairs."
