Coronation Street villain Pat Phelan made a dramatic exit from the cobbles five years ago when he was stabbed by one of his victims, Anna Windass.

The actor, Connor McIntyre, first joined the long-running series in early 2013 and was even named one of the best soap villains of all time as well as in the soap itself.

His character Pat committed a series of despicable crimes including kidnapping Andy Carver and Vinny Ashford, framing Anna for pushing Seb Franklin off a ladder, murdering several people and more.

After leaving the show in 2018, Connor decided to take up a more peaceful career.

He swapped acting murderous on television for becoming a celebrated painter. He was even shortlisted for the prestigious Jackson Painting Prize this year.

Connor achieved a First Class Honours Degree in Fine Art and, in 2015, earned a Master's in Contemporary Art Practice.

He previously explained to Northern Life Magazine: "I was one of those kids, I can hear my mum laughing, saying, ‘Always the wrong way around with you lad, we couldn’t get the police to get you to school. Now at 50, you decide to go to university!’

“If you’ve got a family, then to say, ‘I’m going to be an artist or an actor or a musician’, is slightly irresponsible. I feel very privileged whenever I’ve got any work, I’m the same as anyone else who is self-employed."

After earning his degree from the University of Plymouth, he opened The Alamo Project - an independent studio space.

Connor regularly shares his incredible paintings with fans on social media.

In late June, he took to his Instagram page to share one of his works, which fans thought was incredible.

"That’s brilliant," one said while another simply posted fire emojis.

One impressed person simply commented: "Love IT."

Connor once opened up about leaving school without any qualifications.

He explained: "I don't suppose I was academic, I wasn't that bright.

So in short, I seldom went to school. I'd hang out, smoking, doing what they do now when they don't go to school, normal Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn stuff…okay it might not have been that, but it feels like it when you're that age."
