Omni-Man, Homelander and Peacemaker Mortal Kombat 1 DLC confirmed
Mortal Kombat 1 has officially revealed the characters set to be included in the Kombat Pack DLC. There's supposed to be six characters, but we can't see one of them...
San Diego Comic Con took place over the weekend and we were treated to our first look at 11 new Mortal Kombat 1 Characters. Li Mei, Baraka, and Tanya were confirmed for the Mortal Kombat 1 roster with a new trailer, followed by a con exclusive look at a story cutscene (which someone obviously filmed and posted online). It showed off the return of Reiko and Motaro – neither of which have been explicitly confirmed to be playable, but Reiko had previously been leaked.
Netherrealm Studios also confirmed who we would be seeing as a part of the game's first batch of DLC fighters. In line with the earlier Amazon Italy leak, we'll be seeing Mortal Kombat's Ermac, Quan Chi, and Takeda returning to the series via DLC, but three guest fighters will also be coming to the game post-launch: Invincible's Omni-Man, The Boys' Homelander, and DC's Peacemaker .
In an interview with Skybound from Comic Con, Netherrealm's Ed Boon confirmed that J.K. Simmons will be voicing Omni-Man like he did in the Invincible animated series. While John Cena and Antony Starr haven't been confirmed to voice Peacemaker and Homelander respectively, the character models bear their likenesses from the Peacemaker and The Boys live action series. So it's a safe bet to assume they will be voicing these characters – especially since Antony Starr recently reprised the role for Homelander's appearance in Warzone. Plus, if Netherrealm could get Sylvester Stallone and Peter Weller for Mortal Kombat 11, I'm sure they can get Cena and Starr.
Just when I thought I was out
For those unaware, guest characters in Mortal Kombat DLC typically have a theme; In Mortal Kombat X a number of horror movie icons – like Jason Voorhees, Alien, and the Predator – joined the battle, while in Mortal Kombat 11, '80s and '90s action movie stars like Robocop, Rambo, and the Terminator made up the guest roster (and the Joker for whatever reason).
Why Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's six week delay is a good thingMortal Kombat 1 is going with Morally ambiguous (and just plain violent) superheroes as the theme this time and it's a perfect fit. I'm already prepping myself for Judge Dredd to enter the game
After The Boys Season 3's incredibly underwhelming ending, it's going to be cathartic to beat up Homelander. Although I do worry that Homelander and Omni-Man both take the 'Evil Superman' role so it'll be interesting to see how they differentiate the two. Hopefully neither just feels like a lazy port of Injustice Superman.
Personally I've not really enjoyed a Mortal Kombat since 2011's Mortal Kombat, but as a certified John Cena fanboy – thanks to my childhood obsession with WWE – I'm now all in on Mortal Kombat 1; although it'll be a missed opportunity if his Friendship finishing move isn't a recreation of Peacemaker's incredible opening credits sequence.
