Several major chains will be closing their doors across 10 sites in the UK over the next week in yet another hefty blow to the British high street.

Since the beginning of this year, many major high street chains have announced closures across the UK.

Some big names that have disappeared from the British high street already this year include Byron Burger and Trespass.

Other chains which have confirmed closures for this week include New Look, Boots, Asda Living and Iceland.

Chains have confirmed that some of its closures were due to dwindling sales however others were simply business decisions.

Asda confirmed to the Mirror earlier this year that the closure of its Asda Living stores was due to the site "running at a loss" for several years.

New Look has also previously told The Mirror that the closures were part of the "normal course of business".

In a statement previously shared with the Mirror about the closures, a New Look spokesperson said: "New Look occasionally closes sites, but also opens new stores when the right opportunities arise."

Boots has announced that it was to shut around 300 of its stores with the first few set to close this month.

Lloyds Pharmacy owner Sainsbury's shared plans to shut all the pharmacy sites based inside the supermarket chain and the frozen supermarket retailer Iceland has not officially confirmed closures - but 11 sites have already gone this year.

Last month, the homeware brand Habitat announced that it was to shut its remaining three standalone stores.

Again, owner Sainsbury's confirmed that Habitat's customers were increasingly making purchases online rather than in-store and this was the reason for the closures.
