Billie Eilish has announced that her dog Pepper has died

Billie Eilish has announced that she's mourning the loss of her beloved dog Pepper, with her describing the canine companion as her "lifelong best friend" in a tribute.

The singer-songwriter, 21, took to her Instagram account to share with her followers on the platform that 15-year-old Pepper had passed away over the weekend.

She shared a series of photos in the post that showed the dog at different stages in her life, ranging from seemingly recent photos to throwback photos.

One photo showed the canine companion seemingly smiling for the camera whilst out on a walk, whilst another showed a teary-eyed Billie lying besides her beloved dog.

Alongside the photos, Billie wrote in the accompanying caption: "Pepper. My life long best friend. I will see you again someday sweet girl. You made it 15 years you f***ing beast."

The Grammy Award winner expressed her love for Pepper, with her concluding the post by writing: "I love you. Rest easy mama, I'll miss you forever. This is a really hard day".

Billie's brother Finneas O'Connell also paid tribute, with him writing in a post on his account: "Sweet Pepper our dog has, at the ripe old age of 15, transcended her mortal form."

The record producer added in his post following the family's loss yesterday: "A good, good dog who gave our family so much love and was loved by us all in equal measure."

Billie's post has amassed more than 5 million likes on the platform and it prompted an outpouring of condolences from some of her followers in the comments section.

This included responses from several other celebrities. Demi Lovato was among those who replied to the post, writing in the comments section recently: "I'm so sorry."

Former Fifth Harmony member Lauren Jauregui wrote: "Sending you lots of love." Whilst actor Nina Dobrev reacted with a series of emojis, including heartbroken emojis.

Fans also shared supportive messages, with one person writing: "I'm so sorry for your loss. Although Pepper is no longer physically with you, she will forever be in your heart."

Another person wrote: "Sending so much love and strength". Whilst someone said in the comments section: "We knew how much you loved Pepper. She is watching over you".
