Jack Whitehall became emotional as he talked about his dad Micheal and the reasons he wanted to become a father himself.

The comedian, 34, and Michael, 83, hilariously mock each other in their Netflix hit show Jack Whitehall: Travels with My Father but in a recent interview, the father-to-be became emotional as he reflected on the sensitive side of his paternal relationship.

Jack is expecting his first child with girlfriend Roxy Horner and opened up on this major life change to Dragon's Den star Steven Bartlett.

"I wanted to have a baby because I wanted him to be around and to know my child and spend time with my kid. I've seen how amazing he is with my niece. He's the most loving person ever and so I want him to have a relationship with my kid," he said on the Diary of a CEO podcast.

He tearfully added: "I want to do all of these things and have success in my career that I can share with him, and he can see these things and enjoy them. I do still think a lot about impressing him. His approval does still mean a hell of a lot to me."

The host described Jack's sentiment as "beautiful" while listeners praised the comedian for his honesty.

One wrote: "Omgosh I listened to this this morning and saw a completely different side to Jack that I haven’t seen before. Such a beautiful conversation, full of emotion and it was such a pleasure to listen to his story."

Another said: "Remarkable! I look forward to finish the episode later on my break. Shows how parents acutely shape their kid’s future and the impact their actions have on their children," while a third posted: "Great to see a slice of Jack's real personality and disposition."

Jack's parents, Michael and Hilary opened up on the impending arrival of their latest grandchild while discussing the problem-solving podcast they host titled The Wittering Whitehalls.

Speaking to Nick Grimshaw on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show, Hilary said: "We're very excited. If she looks like her mum…he or she will hopefully have lovely long legs like mummy. Mommy is gorgeous. We love Roxy. I've got to be honest, you'll appreciate this, she's not a woman you want to get stuck next to in a photograph when you look like I do. The direct comparison is brutal.”
