Prince George and Princess Charlotte 's close bond could see him step away from a poignant royal tradition, it has been said.

The young prince, who turns 10 today, currently attends Lambrook School in Berkshire alongside his little sister. However, in a few years, a decision will have to be made on whether he will follow in his father Prince William 's footsteps and attend Eton College.

Eton is a boy's only school, meaning Charlotte wouldn't be able to join him. Last month, Prince George was taken on a tour of the prestigious school. George was seen accompanied by his doting parents at the college on Wednesday as the Prince and Princess of Wales chatted with staff.

Prince William attended the historic boys' school near Windsor as a child from 1995, after King Charles attended the Scottish boarding school Gordonstoun - which he reportedly hated. William was the first senior royal to go to Eton and was followed by brother Harry who was also educated there between 1998 and 2003.

Fees for Eton are a staggering £15,432 per term - according to the school's website - with a £400 fee just for registering, although scholarships are offered to pupils who pass an exam.

However, it still isn't known if he will attend Eton. A royal expert has speculated his bond with his little sister could be a deciding factor.

Royal Editor at Vanity Fair Katie Nicholl told True Royalty TV’s The Royal Beat : "I know William’s always been very keen for George to follow in his footsteps and go to Eton…[but Catherine] was of course at Marlborough, she was there with her siblings and that is a co-ed school and co-ed has always been really important for her."

She added: "You rarely see George on official engagements without the support of his little sister. They are clearly very tight, and Charlotte is the ultimate support act in a way that Princess Anne has always been for Charles.

"If he goes to Eton, obviously she will have to go somewhere else. [William and Catherine] have kept them together all this time and chosen co-ed, Catherine was very happy at co-ed and loved her time at Marlborough so it will be a massive decision, and it will be a big thing if he goes to Eton."

Eton is one of three public schools to have remained boys only, alongside Harrow and Radley, and has educated the likes of George Orwell and Eddie Redmayne.

It also counts 20 British Prime Ministers along with its alumni, including Boris Johnson and David Cameron.

While Eton only takes boys from the age of 13, it's thought Kate and William could be getting George used to the school if he is also to study there.
