MLS hero Brad Knighton has posted an emotional tribute to his young daughter after her tragic death in a boat accident, as his former team also issued its condolences.

Ex- New England Revolution goalkeeper Knighton has been left devastated after his 11-year-old child was killed in the incident in South Carolina on July 19. According to South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, the former MLS player's daughter Olivia was among twelve occupants on a boat, when a large wake caused some of those present to be thrown overboard after the vessel was struck by another boat.

In total, nine people were knocked overboard from the 23-foot boat, with Knighton's daughter eventually having been left injured after she was struck by a propeller. According to Horry County Coroner’s Office, Oliva later died at McLeod Seacoast Hospital as a result of the unfortunate incident.

Following the tragic news, the former MLS star — who retired from the game in January issued a sorrowful statement on behalf of the family on Instagram, accompanied by a picture of his daughter. The caption read: “There are no words to express the depth of our profound grief and sorrow in this moment.

“Our family is still in shock at the sudden and tragic loss of our beautiful and brilliant daughter, Olivia, to an unfortunate boating accident yesterday. We are all still in disbelief that her bright and pure light was taken away from us so suddenly.”
