A woman who began crying at the tills of an Asda supermarket has said she was saved by a kind "angel" who saw her struggling and decided to step in to help her.

Caron Campbell went to do some shopping in her local Asda store in St Helens, Merseyside, as usual - but when she got to the till to pay, things soon took a turn for the worst.

After her gift card did not work and her card was declined, Caron, who struggles with anxiety, said she began to panic and soon found herself having a panic attack. This soon led to an angina attack as the 46-year-old said she "didn't know what to do", reports the Liverpool Echo.

But she said an "angel came from nowhere" and helped her in a tricky situation. The kind-hearted customer not only helped to calm Caron but also paid for her shopping.

She said: "Sometimes I find things hard anyway but when my card was declined the queue was getting bigger and I could feel the panic rising, it was awful. I started to get really upset because I didn't know what to do. I had a horrible panic attack and I have stress induced angina so it brought that on, it was horrendous.

"But a lovely lady came over to me and I get emotional thinking about it but she gave me a big hug and made sure I was okay and paid for my shopping. It was £15 so not just a couple of pound and she stayed to comfort me. She said she was upset seeing me in that state and kept hugging me, she wouldn't let me pay her back just said pass the kindness on. I don't know what I'd have done if she didn't help me.

"I was crying, shaking, in a mess. I wanted to find her to thank her properly, I don't think a lot of people would be that kind seeing someone in that state but she was absolutely lovely. She's like an angel, I don't know where she came from. I keep crying thinking about how much she helped me."
