Coronation Street star Sally Ann Matthews has given fans a glimpse into her family life as she gushed over her son's achievement.

The actress, 52, told her followers about her pride as she shared a milestone moment for her family and had her soap stars share their support. Sally Ann, who plays Jenny Bradley in the soap, took to Instagram to share snaps of her son Louis' graduation.

In a photo, the soaps star mum stood proudly next to her son in his cap and gown and wrote: "Very proud mum klaxon. Congratulations @louis.rhodes Xxx." Sally looked gorgeous in a green floral maxi dress and blue blazer as she wrapped her arm around her child.

Sally Ann usually keeps her family life private, but shared a rare glimpse with a post of her on-screen husband alongside her 'real one' to mark the character's departure during dramatic death scenes.

Jenny was left heartbroken after hubby Johny – played by Richard Hawley – drowned in a sewer drain beneath the cobbles after trying to save her during a sink hole collapse.

The on-screen duo had recently split after Jenny's affair when Johny was behind bars was exposed, but viewers saw the former publican admit he was still in love with her as he rushed to her rescue.

Paying tribute to actor Richard following their time together in the soap, she captioned the picture: "The real one and the pretend one. I’m going to miss my Manchester husband terribly. Thank you Rich for a fab five years x #Corrie."

In real life Sally is married to Nick Rhodes who she tied the knot with in surprise ceremony in 1999. She shares who two sons Louis and James with her husband.

The much-loved actress was just 15-years-old when she started playing the role of Jenny Bradley, the daughter of villainous Alan and foster mum Rita Tanner.

During a special Corrie-themed episode of DNA secrets back in 2018, it was revealed that soap legend Amanda Barrie is actually Sally Ann's cousin.

Amanda, who played Alma Baldwin, was in Corrie with Sally for four years and the pair remained close friends over the years – but had no idea of the family connection for all that time.

Their jaws dropped to the floor when they found out, with Amanda admitting: "I thought I'd come round the corner and you'd go 'oh no not you!'."

Sally pointed out they have the same cheeky sense of humour, both like dancing and always felt close. Speaking to the RadioTimes about her discovery, she said: "Waiting for my Corrie cousin to come around the corner was torture – I was praying it was someone I liked! The joy when I saw it was Amanda was overwhelming and I thought, ‘well, of course it is, that all makes sense now."
