Coronation Street legend Andy Whyment lands brand new job on ITV soap
Andy Whyment first joined Coronation Street in 2000 and the beloved stalwart has now been offered a new role in connection with the ITV soap.
The Kirk Sutherland legend is showing fans around the show’s studios at weekends.
Fans forking out for VIP Star Tours £45 per person tickets have been delighted to get hugely-popular Andy showing them behind-the-scenes on the UK’s best-loved soap.
Fans are told: “All in a day’s Kirk - Andy Whyment is the first Corrie legend to host our brand new Star Tours.
“Brother of Maria Jane Connor (née Sutherland), Kirk was initially cast for a supporting role of only seven episodes, but look at him now! He’s become an integral part of the Coronation Street family, capturing our hearts with his endearing charm and comedic timing.
Corrie's Sue Cleaver says I'm A Celebrity stint helped her to push boundaries“Andy’s infectious energy and genuine connection with the audience left everyone starry-eyed and craving more. The laughter was contagious, and the memories made will be cherished forever.”
Father of two Andy,42, joined the show in 2000 and trained at the Laine Johnson Theatre School in Salford.
His first credited part was in Cracker in 1993. He also had minor roles in The Cops, Heartbeat and Where the Heart Is from 1999 to 2000. The studios in Salford opened up for tours in 2018 after the closure of the visitor attraction at the old Quay Street set in Manchester city centre.
Guests can walk down the famous cobbles and see landmarks including the Rovers Return Inn, The Kabin and Roy’s Rolls, and the recent Victoria Street expansion, including new shops, a police station, and the Weatherfield North tram station.
In 2019, he participated in the nineteenth series of I’m a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! and finished in second place before returning to the series when he appeared in I’m a Celebrity... South Africa earlier this year.
Speaking about his original I'm A Celebrity experience, he denied it had changed him and said: "No because four days later, I was back working on Coronation Street. Doing the show is a bit like going on holiday and then returning to normal life mode.”
On returning to the show so soon after he last appeared in the jungle, he added: “I don’t think it is going to be too different. I was in it three years ago and so it is still quite a fresh memory for me. If someone did it 15 years ago, then that will feel alien to them!”
