An elderly Colorado woman broke down in tears after a sheriff's deputy bought her food to feed her starving grandchildren.

Vicki Green, a 71-year-old woman, couldn't hold back her tears as a deputy, Ryan Weiner, arrived to offer support.

The situation arose when Vicki's boyfriend had consumed the last bit of food in their home, leaving her 10-year-old son and 8-year-old great-grandson without anything.

She told deputies her boyfriend had cooked the last two hotdogs for dinner and made the kids watch him eat, while they went to bed hungry.

Ryan went to the local Walmart, where he bought Vikki enough food to last for a week — including essentials like eggs and milk. When he arrived back, Vicki was confronted with a kitchen counter full of food.

On his body worn camera footage, Deputy Ryan Weiner can be heard reassuring Vicki as he said "I'm here for you today, and I'm going to make sure your kids have enough to eat."

"I can't bear to see them go hungry," he shared. “And it sounds like they didn’t eat last night and they’re not going to eat today.”

As he pulls out each item, Vicki could be seen getting more and more emotional. When Deputy Weiner asks her what's wrong, she says she is embarrassed.

"Please don't be embarrassed,' he tells her. "This is my gift to you. I hate when kids are hungry, that speaks to my heart."

In a statement, the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office said: "Our deputies responded to a domestic dispute involving Vicki, 71, and her boyfriend.

"Vicki told Deputy Weiner that the argument started because her babies were hungry. She told deputies her boyfriend had cooked the last two hotdogs for dinner and made the kids watch him eat, while they went to bed hungry.

"The argument escalated, resulting in the boyfriend calling 911, but when deputies arrived they determined Vicki's story was more credible, and asked the boyfriend to leave.

"Deputy Weiner said his heart broke for the children, so he left the home and went to Walmart to buy groceries.

"Vicki was so appreciative, she encouraged us to share the body camera video. Thank you Deputy Weiner for the kindness, compassion and generosity you showed this family."

Speaking of the encounter with Denver 7, Weiner said he discovered that Vicki's boyfriend 'had eaten the last two hotdogs in front of the two kids because he was mad at her about something.

"They had some food in the house, but in talking to Miss Vicki, she mentioned that she wasn't getting her Social Security money for about a week.

"We talk about food deserts, you know, they have a lot of like processed stuff. So I got them more like chicken and some beef and some oranges, and just like stuff that she could actually make for them."
