Brits heading to Spain this summer will need to make sure they have a few extra documents as well as their passports.

Spain has made changes to travel rules for holidaymakers from Britain following the country's departure from the European Union.

Despite temperatures soaring to sweltering, plus 40C highs in resorts popular with Brits, many people are heading out to Spain regardless, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Those heading to Malaga, Alicante, Palma, or any Spanish city need to be aware that they now need extra documents to enter.

As well as needing to get your passports stamped before using the e-gates, British holidaymakers must also carry three extra documents; proof of a return or onward ticket, enough money for their stay, and proof that they have somewhere to stay in Spain.

This includes proof of hotel booking confirmations, proof of address if visiting your own property - such as a second home - or an invitation from your host or proof of their address if staying with a third party, friends or family.

Foreign Office advice states: “You may also be subject to additional checks at the point of entry including a temperature check, visual health assessment, or testing on arrival.”

The Spanish Ministry of Interior has confirmed that: "Foreigners must, if required, specify the reason for their request to enter and stay in Spain. The officials responsible for entry control may require them to present documents that justify or establish the credibility of the reason for entry invoked.

"Foreigners who request entry, in order to justify the credibility of the reason invoked, may present any document or means of proof that, in their opinion, justifies the stated reasons for entry.

"For these purposes, the presentation, among others, of the following documents may be required : In all cases, return or tourist circuit ticket."

In recent years trips to the UK's favourite holiday destination - which 15million Brits visited last year - have changed considerably, due to the Covid pandemic, Brexit and regional law changes.

Restaurant owners on the Spanish island say they are fed up with "no shows" which are leaving them out of pocket.

They're also rallying against rival restaurants phoning up to book tables under bogus names as a way of staving off competition. In a bid to stop too many tables from remaining empty, Majorca's restaurant association, Restauración CAEB, has introduced a new policy.
