City announces Taylor Swift as mayor and changes its name to honour star

Taylor Swift is being made a mayor

Taylor Swift's achievements are never-ending, and now the Anti-Hero hitmaker is about to add another string to her guitar.

With the 33-year-old's tour now winding down as it nears the end of the US leg, Taylor will be in Santa Clara for a number of shows next week. And to celebrate and commemorate Taylor storming the Levi's Stadium, they have announced something very exciting.

The Santa Clara City Council has proclaimed Taylor Swift as the honorary mayor of Santa Clara for two days next week, with the city even gearing up to change the city's name to honour the star. The proclamation from Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor comes as Taylor prepares to sing her hits and perform her three-hour show for two nights in a row on July 28 and July 29.

In the document, which was released today, Mayor Gillmor states: "American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift has had a tremendous cultural impact since her debut self-titled album in 2006." She adds: "Taylor Swift has achieved nine number one hits, forty top ten hits, and one hundred ninety entries on the Billboard Hot 100 List."

At the bottom of the document, the mayor reveals that the city will be changed from Santa Clara to Swiftie Clara while she brings The Eras Tour to the city.

In the news release, the Mayor also said: "The City is honoring Taylor Swift and The Eras Tour, like many cities have done across the country, to celebrate the cultural impact of this exceptional artist and to highlight the City of Santa Clara and Levi’s Stadium as a world class destination for national and international talent."

The official Twitter account for the city also celebrated the news today, with them writing: "WELCOME TO SWIFTIE CLARA! It’s been a long time coming, and we are enchanted to announce the City Council has proclaimed @taylorswift13 as SC’s Honorary Mayor for July 28 & 29."

Fans went wild after the announcement was made, with one writing: "Proud resident of Swiftie Clara." Another then said: "TAYLOR SWIFT IS MY MAYOR." While a third penned: "Where do I go to school? Oh yeah Swiftie Clara University." And a fourth wrote: "Finally someone made her mayor I was waiting for this."

Meanwhile, one fan challenged Los Angeles to one up Santa Clara when Taylor concludes her tour in LA at the beginning of August. They penned: "@MayorOfLA what will LA do for @taylorswift13 when she is here for the week? The Hollywood sign should be changed for her! LA is her last US stop and the only US city to get 6 shows. We have to top what the other cities have done for her."

Many cities have honoured Taylor Swift since she embarked on her Eras Tour earlier this year. When the singer kicked off her tour in Glendale, Arizona, the city temporarily changed its name to Swift City.

Meanwhile Las Vegas celebrated with a light show on the Gateway Arches on Las Vegas Boulevard inspired by the colours from The Eras Tour's poster.

And Tampa went one step further when they renamed their entire county from Hillsborough County to Swiftsborough.
